The Seasalter Sailing Club is on the North Kent Coast just to the west of Whitstable enjoying the waters of Whitstable Bay and the mouth of the River Swale. The sea is shallow and we can only sail +/-2 hrs of high water but the swell is quite interesting in a northerly wind (great to surf down on the leeward leg).

Club sailing takes place on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, according to tides, between March and November with races divided into Fast and Slow Handicap starts. Several Pursuit Race series are also held each year.

New members are welcome and membership and is currently all inclusive of boat parking and racing plus use of the club facilities. The club comprises a mix of single and family members of all ages with a variety of over 50 catamaran and monohull boats.

The Sprint 15 fleet, the largest class, is now 16 strong (out of 27 cats in total) and range from number 288 to 1978. One key thing that has helped promote the Sprint fleet has been our club boats. We have a Dart 18, Sprint 15, Solo and Mirror as club boats for members to 'hire' by donation to club funds to try out and see what they fancy getting or moving onto next.

Camping and boat parking is free, during events, for visiting sailors and their families in the boat field on the opposite side of the road to the clubhouse (a nominal fee is charged for sailing visitors at other times). The main building is situated behind the sea wall with the first floor clubroom and balcony overlooking the sailing area (only 15 metres from high water mark). Shower and toilet facilities within the club are available for those camping by use of the main club facilities. Free public parking is available along the beach front.

The club bar is open for members and their visitors on Friday nights and Saturday night theme events are organised on a regular basis throughout the year with an evening meal. The Saxon Shore Way footpath passes the club and leads, past a nature reserve, along the River Swale estuary into the historic sailing barge building town of Faversham westwards and into the oyster fishing town of Whitstable eastwards.

For more information call the Sprint 15 fleet captain, Chris Stafford tel. 01795 474535.

Directions

From the junction of the M2 and A2 near Faversham take the A299 towards Margate.

There are then two routes to the club:

1.In about 1/4 mile take the first exit from the A299 (sign posted Faversham) and then take the first right at the crossroads in 100 metres. The club is reached after approximately four miles of country road - the first building on the sea front after 'The Sportsman' public house.

2.Stay on the A299 and follow the signs to Whitstable. In approximately 4 miles leave the A299 and at the second roundabout turn left and proceed down the hill towards Whitstable and take the left turn sign posted to Seasalter at the bottom of the hill. The club is about 2-3 miles along this road on the beach front (only building on the right after leaving the Seasalter village and the chalets on the beach front).
