Camping & Sailing

Is there any club / resort / campsite / in the UK where I can sail and camp at/near the water's edge for a few nights and ablution facilities are available?

Fibreglass insert

I replaced mine last year - it was also an old fibreglass one, and was glued in very well! It was an absolute pig to remove. It will not come out neatly - you will have to break it out bit by bit. I had to sand the new insert quite a bit for it to fit. Good luck!

Since we seem to branching out internationally, here are the co-ordinates for Stilbaai Yacht Club on the Vaal Dam in South Africa. (-26.836473702773943, 28.175050020217895) This is the "home" of the Sprint 15 in SA, as well as the others built by Collins Fibreglass Plastics - eg Dart 18, T...

To roll or not to roll - that is the question

Steve, Thanks for that. When you next feel like another wander down to the orchard would you mind checking roughly where on the 300mm rubber strips the hulls rest - ie how far in from the outer edges. Also, presumably the beams are made from box section or "square tubing" as we call it in ...

To roll or not to roll - that is the question.

As part of my trailer-tent trailer conversion to carry my boat project, I am considering whether to add keel rollers to the trailer’s crossbeams to aid the loading and unloading of the boat on and off the trailer. I have seen some trailers with rollers on both front and rear crossbeams; some with ro...

Here is something I found on the Trident Trailers website: Marking of rear overhang Between 1m and 2m, the end must be clearly visible, do so by attaching a piece of cloth or similar. Between 2m and 3.05m, a marker board as defined in the regulations must be fitted and also illuminated at night. Loa...

Thanks for the replies so far chaps. Hopefully there will be some more! From those that have been mentioned, were the boats transported on these modified trailers in assembled or broken down form? I am particularly interested in transporting mine in an assembled mode as if it were on a normal traile...

Trailer adaptation

Has anyone ever considered or undertaken adapting or converting a trailer from a trailer tent to carry their boat as well ?

Thanks,
Peter

Spark 272

Bought in July 2006 from a Mr Alan Bason in Blakeney, Norfolk, who was in the process of emigrating to Italy. According to Mr Bason, Spark 272 had spent the last 10 years or so stored in his garage. Apparently she was given to Mr Bason's son as part payment for some work he had done for the original...

Another Sprint on Ebay

Just thought I'd let fellow members know that I've spotted a Sprint on Ebay. Looks like sail number 1707. Have a look at item 280129963134

Mainsheet Blocks

The mainsheet block setup on my old Spark has 2 fiddle blocks resulting in a 4 to 1 purchase. What do the rules say about upgrading these ? Presumably a 6 to 1 purchase is the current standard. Is there a sheave size restriction ? Can I use blocks that have 3 pulleys side by side rather than the cur...
