This is turning into a long thread! Robin's point about knots in the righting line is a good one. I also put in a loop a couple of feet from the mast - it makes a great ladder for getting back on board when you are tired. By the way, there is a diagram of how to rig the mainsheet block in the riggin...

Hi Pete I had a Sting for 9 yrs (no.1235) from about 1990 having had a standard 15 for 2 yrs before that. I am one of those Bob mentioned ie. a coastal sailor (TBYC on the Thames Estuary) who sold the Sting because of the righting problems. I'm about 11 st. I loved the Sting but got nervous about ri...

Hi Bob

Just gone out to the garage and measured my short tiller. 1.67m it is! That's the one I'll use.

To be fair to the Laser Centre I wanted a longer tiller for cruising and they supplied me with one. Somehow over the years I have ended up with both.

Cheers

No problem Robert I doubt if anyone would have guessed anyway! I was just trying to spur some of the other 23 Sprint 15s at Thorpe Bay YC into making an early showing. No chance. Maybe the info on not cashing the cheques will help! Duncan Ford TBYC 1973 PS Being a cruising cat sailor I sail with a D...

Hi Charles. A bit unfair to say Thorpe Bay has "tough shingle". We have a good stretch of beach next to the club which is a mix of sand and shingle but quite skeg friendly. (See photo on Nationals info on this web site) For those who choose to launch off the beach there is about 10/15 yard...

Hi again Bob. Have checked files and enormous quantities of humble pie are due, together with a glass or two of red at the Nationals! I picked the boat up in Nov 2002 as you believed. Many apologies for getting that wrong. Sometimes I think it is only weeks before I'll be dribbling in an old peoples...

Hi Bob I have not got any info here in the office but will check as soon as I get home. Your info is likely to be correct, especially if you have a copy of the order! The website was changed some time ago at my instigation. Advance humble pie may be in order, but let me check my files first. If I ha...

Loose bolt in hull

Thanks Bob and Brian. Extra weight explains my poor performance! Relieved for confirmation there are no bolts or screws inside the hull, but still wonder where the hell it came from! Bob - your story about the clevis pin circlips is a good one. I must remember to get a supply for my first attempt at...

Loose Bolt in Hull

When re-assembling my boat last weekend after gelcoat skeg repairs in the back garden, I could hear what I assumed to be a rivet head rolling around in one hull. I managed to work it to the stern and get it out, only to find it was a 3mm screw headed bolt 40mm long. I am not aware that any bolt of t...

Boat and car damage on slipway

Hi Andrew

The car shouldn't have been at the top of the slipway and, if the Dart 16 owner was not a member, he shouldn't have been using the slipway (unless he was a guest of course?).

I would have politely asked them to remove themselves and argue somewhere else!!

Hi Andrew We have had this conversation re trolleys! Izods in Southchurch Blvd sell a spray glue (name escapes me but they only sell one). The original cup covering wears quickly, so the answer is a tough short pile carpet tile type bit of carpet. (Geoff Keane carpets in Woodgrange Drive will give y...
