Re: Our Sprint Holiday

Liam So we did. The crew had been commenting for a while about how clearly she could see the bottom which is partly why we turned around where we did :-) It was around low water although nothing like as low as when we went in our Jaguar 21 and spent several hours anchored to the sandbank waiting for...

Our Sprint Holiday

So Jane and I are back from our first (short) holiday with our Sprint 15. We went to Lee-on-the-Solent (drove to the M27 services late on Sunday night for some sleep, then onwards on Monday morning). This was our first journey with the Sprint 15 on the car roof while towing the caravan. The combinat...

Re: Newsprint is Dead!!!, long live e-Newsprint???

I'd offer a slight contrarian view. I'm happy to support the paper newsletter through my subs. However, I'd very much want to encourage all the content to be available on the association site. Ideally as individual articles tagged so that we can find them in multiple ways. a) as a newcomer it would ...

Re: Race Tracking with RaceQS

I recorded Monday's sail on my Garmin bike computer which as well as being waterproof has much better battery life than my phone. Just popped it in a drybag in one of the lockers. I can easily do that with an external battery anyway to give plenty of battery life to last all day :-)

Fun Sailing on Rutland with video and woman overboard

We had another great sail on Rutland yesterday. Jane trying out her Gull drysuit for the first time. In fact she decided to fully test it by falling overboard during a sudden acceleration going downwind. Turns out the drysuit worked in keeping her warm and dry while bobbing about in the middle of Ru...

Re: How much?!?! Trailer stuff

When carrying the Sprint 15 on the roof rack the big thing is to stop the hulls moving around due to the curvature of the decks when the hulls are upside-down on the roof rack. I have always addressed this by cutting some very shallow wooden wedges and taping them onto the roof rack with black carp...

Re: How much?!?! Trailer stuff

What I've learned about trailers (sorry, never car topped) The wider the roller the better. I just switched mine to 8" V profile. Previous were 5" flat profile with raised edges and the boat tended to travel sideways while rolling on and want to jump off the side. I've just rechecked and ...

Re: Race Tracking with RaceQS

That looks great! I've been using either my running watch or phone to record my sails on Strava (which I use for running and cycling). This looks better. I've got a waterproof phone pouch from Rooster, so far tie it to the halyard pouch but might try it in the cocktail cabinet (an even better test o...

How much?!?! Trailer stuff

A free day tomorrow so heading off for a sail at Rutland. However, this morning I thought it would be a good idea to check the trailer tyre pressures. Found both tyres badly cracked (quite scarily so in fact). One of the disadvantages of a cat trailer is that we can easily forget to inspect the whee...

Re: Suggestions for South Coast Sailing 4 days end Oct

Mylor is lovely and sheltered in almost all winds. Studland is also beautiful but maybe Swanage Sailing Club would be a better place to start with a catamaran. The Solent is a waste of time. Very few places to land a catamaran safely, the tides are strong, it's often choppy and it's full of ships. ...

Suggestions for South Coast Sailing 4 days end Oct

Hi, We've got 4 days off towards the end of October and fancy some late season sailing :-) Looking for ideas for the South Coast. We will be caravan camping so our Sprint 15 will travel on the car roof. Therefore we want somewhere where the boat can stay on it's launching trolley for 4 days/nights. ...
