Re: Erling

Erling Holmberg will always be remembered as one of the great charismatic personalities of the class. Always approachable and just a decent sort of fellow. He was competitive but gentlemanly with it. He was always happy to give advice to newcomers and tail enders. You couldn't help liking the fellow...

Re: Help please

My recollection of the Prindle 15 is that it goes like greased lightning. But if you have trouble tacking a Sprint in a seaway, try tacking a Prindle. One owner got so exasperated that he quit tacking altogether and gybed instead. Not a very attractive proposition at a closely contested windward mar...

Re: RYA Dinghy Show 2 & 3 March

What a great show, it was. Thanks to everyone who manned the Sprint stand over the weekend. The location was good as there was a continuous line of people passing by. I tend to keep close to the perimeter as I'm inclined to get disorientated when wandering around. I noticed most people walked in an ...

Re: General weather forecasts

Thanks, Liam.

I particularly like the Windfinder link you gave. Met Office seems a bit 'old hat' by modern standards.

General weather forecasts

The Met Office has bungled things again. Instead of making weather forecasts simpler, they have contrived to make them over-complicated. Instead of a week-at-view, we now have to scroll up and down and to and fro. Probably invented by some gormless drip from a tin-pot university. Please could I trou...

A lovely balanced and well-written report on the association website. Well done, whoever wrote it. Who was it?

Re: Paris Olympics 2024

The class to go will be the Finns. In a way, I feel sorry for them as they have been around for so long. I don't really care for the way Olympic sailing is going. For example, the Mixed Two-Person keelboat event reminds me of mixed doubles at Wimbledon. We wonder if Premier League football would be ...

Paris Olympics 2024

I had a curious email from Yachts and Yachting. It concerned the choice of boats for the Paris Olympics in 2024. As one would expect, there have been some disgruntled people. Apparently the authorities have chosen a mixed two-person keelboat at the expense of a mixed one-person dinghy. What's a mixe...
