Sail repairs

Can anyone recommend a sailmaker who can do some repairs to the bottom of our mainsail boltrope.

Ideally in the East Midlands (or possibly west country as we will be going there later this year).

Thanks

Re: Mainsheet rachet block and cleat

Thanks Brian,

I'm going to stick with the plastic fairlead until I have given it a proper going through.

Mainsheet rachet block and cleat

Hi, My mainsheet cleat was getting very unreliable. At the same time, the block was very bashed. So I've replaced it and today was my first sail. The new cleat has vertical edges making the slot for the sheet, the old one had the top chamfered. The new cleat has a plastic guard to keep the sheet rea...

Re: Winter Series kicks off with Stewartby 4 November

Sadly going to miss Stewartby tomorrow. I got held up in a meeting and then traffic. So I wasn't able to get to Whitwell to collect my boat before the car park closed. Can't get in early enough tomorrow to get to Stewartby in time either.

Have a great day racing.

Re: Sail batten legality

So where is the right place? So no batten touches a shroud even in a stronger wind when the sail twists more? Dave Only if you tie it in the wrong place. :D Have you got a knot in your mainsheet? Putting a knot in the rope so it can't go any further out than it needs to should help reduce breakages....

Re: Sail batten legality

Thanks!

No knot but I have shortened the mainsheet (and traveller sheet) a lot.

Anyone who wants to protest because I have a cheap hack that is probably heavier than the spec is welcome :-)

Sail batten legality

Our #4 batten got broken (not quite into 2 pieces) sometime on our summer holiday. I had a spare and have cut it to length and fitted it. The original had foam stuck to it but clearly not where it hit the shroud and snapped. Rather than buy sticky foam from Windsport, at least for the moment, I've s...

Thanks Andy,

I expect that as usual the biggest factor is speed.

Fuel economy for crazy TTer

So I'm planning to go to the Newhaven and Seaford TT. That means around 400 miles driving. I'm wondering if anyone has any data on how much my fuel economy would be improved if instead of carrying my mast full length on the trailer (extending over my van) I split it and strap it under the boat on th...

Re: First repair and Race lessons

Dave, On item 3 - yes the South Africa could have an old toe strap arrangement where the two toe straps are connected together with a bolt rope inside the rear beam slot. Modern Dart 15/Sprint 15s had independent toe straps located in the rear beams by a 'slug' fitting. These are better but start b...

Re: First repair and Race lessons

Thanks Liam, 3. Look up Truckers' Hitch on Youtube. I'd checked out other boats and slackened mine off from bar taught, maybe I did that too much. Also apparently the Out of Africa boats are different from others as the 2 straps are connected by a bolt rope inside the beam track. Brian recommended c...

First repair and Race lessons

Whoo Hoo I got #2008 to Steve Sawford for repair before everyone else whose boat got broke at the Nationals :-) Confident that she will be beautiful again soon. Looking forward to getting her fixed in time for a week of cruising from Windsport at the end of August. Hopefully a harbour full of boats ...

Re: One design Sprint 15

I asked Brian for a one off carbon fibre Sprint 15 but he didn't seem very enthusiastic about building it for me ;-)
