New sailing season. New video

Nearly a year since the last one, so I decided to make another video using footage from the Marconi SC season opener:

http://youtu.be/KVzulxob-R8

I'm experimenting with the best places to mount and point the camera. This time its all from the bow, looking backward, forward and sideways.

Marconi TT

The Marconi TT is just around the corner on 12th & 13th April. The NOR and event info has been posted today. There will be 3 races round the cans on Saturday, and a longer race around Osea and Northey islands ( approx course here ) on Sunday. There's free camping on Saturday night, catering all ...

Re: 1957

Never fear. Thomas is now the proud owner of Stuart Snell's nationals winning boat. He turned in a strong performance with it at the Marconi TT.

I believe Stuart is acquiring a new White-built 15, but I only have that info second hand so could be wrong.

GoPro Time

I finally took my GoPro camera sailing on Sunday afternoon, and managed to edit some highlights last night. I mounted it behind the main beam using a combination of 21mm drainage pipe, insulation tape and rope. Jen generously described it as "a bit Heath Robinson". Thankfully it all held t...

Re: Marconi

Thanks to all who came along this weekend. Given the weather in recent days and weeks I think 25 entries was an outstanding effort. Well done to Jenny for winning overall, and a special mention to Paul Grattage for winning the long distance race by a country mile in very tricky conditions. A race re...

Re: Marconi

By recent standards the forecast for this weekend looks good, with moderate breeze and a fair bit of sunshine. The only thing I can't promise is double-digit temperatures. We're looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and some new ones too. If there are any last minute questions feel free to p...

Re: Marconi

Hi Simon, The event "Further Information" notes say there will be site access from 4pm on Friday - I hadn't read that bit until today :D I checked with Fenella today and that is still the plan. If you drop her a message or phone call (contact details in the event info document) with approx...

Re: Marconi

Hi Simon, We'd love to see you. Camping is available Friday and Saturday nights at no charge. Tents, caravans and motorhomes are all welcome, but given recent weather it is important to park with care - some grassed areas are a little soft. On Saturday morning the club gate will be opened first thin...

Re: Keeping my rudders up !

Hi Derek, When I acquired my current Sprint 15 both rudders had problems either staying up or down. My first move was to strip, clean and lubricate the whole stock and locking mechanism. This actually made the problem worse (because the rollers moved more freely in their slots) but at least it elimi...

Re: Newsprint Autumn 2012 and Membership Subs

As Bob says the cartoons are brilliant - hope I've done them justice. :? Phil has excelled - being 'got' in one of his cartoons is better than any trophy in my book. Without giving the game away, there are one or two prominent sailors who should be roundly embarrassed! I was chuffed to get a...

Re: Boat name

Best not take my advice - I scored second place in the worst names category with "Two's Complement" :D I like the name though, cos its unashamedly techy and links to my first ever computer science lecture back in 1994. For boat names, I have tended to look for inspiration in hobbies, famil...

Tangling with the committee boat

Despite the shame of my two black flags during the nationals, I'm thankful that I did at least avoid taking any lumps out of the committee boat. For anyone who did hit the committee boat, you can take comfort that it happens to the professionals too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0li5rH_2j0&fe...

Re: National Championship Brightlingsea

Meanwhile on the weather menu.... http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=47926 ... moderate southerly and westerly breezes. A few more knots might be nice, but the direction is good. Pretty warm too. Doesn't look like we'll see a repeat of the baptism-of-fire that was day 1 at Pwllheli. Them's felt...
