Re: Summer TT at Marconi - 14/15 April

Both the wind and general weather forecast are shaping up nicely for the TT at Marconi this weekend. Perfect conditions to kick off a summer of 40th anniversary racing. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Re: Favour Please - Pick up from Grafham/Delivery to Marconi

Hi Stuart
Thank you for the offer. I would be very grateful if you could bring the con bar.
See you at the TT.

Favour Please - Pick up from Grafham/Delivery to Marconi

I left a tiller connector bar at Grafham Water SC back last autumn. The GWSC office have it for safe keeping. I'd be really grateful if there's any Grafham sailors coming to the Marconi TT on 14/15 April who could bring it down with them. Alternatively, if anyone is doing the Grafham TT this Sunday ...

Re: Sat 7th April - Sprint 15 Training Day at Marconi SC

2 weeks to go until the training day/teach-in at Marconi SC on 7th April. As with previous years it will be a fun an informal day with good sailing, good company and good food. We need to know attendees in advance to ensure the correct activities, safety cover and catering are in place. Please email...

Sat 7th April - Sprint 15 Training Day at Marconi SC

Marconi SC will be holding a Sprint 15 Training Day on Sat 7th April. A great chance to dust off the skills learned last year (unless you've been exercising them right across the winter of course) and pick up some new tips for the season ahead. It's also ideal preparation for the first Sprint 15 Sum...

Re: Sail number positioning

If you've got an old sail of the same number (in the correct position) you can use it as a template by laying your new sail over the top of it.

Re: Grafham Cat Open 21/22 Oct

Good luck to Team Marconi in overcoming Shanklin in the team shield. If you sail in 38 knots you deserve it.  Our plans so far extend to walking/cycling around the reservoir on Saturday, followed by some fine food and drink at a local hostelry and a cozy (in most cases) night's sleep mos...

Re: Grafham Cat Open 21/22 Oct

Seems like a reasonable compromise. Good work GWSC and others who have worked behind the scenes to make it happen. Fingers crossed for Sunday. There should still be a good contingent from Marconi, partly because we've booked our accommodation and partly because some of our sailors quite like a 'good...

Re: Rudder blades pop up

Fingers crossed you find a solution. Regarding the springs - someone once suggested to me a long time ago that it is better to store your rudders in the down position because the springs will then spend most of their life extended, not compressed, and so retain strength. I've done it with mine ever ...

Re: Rudder blades pop up

Sounds like you've done all the right things. If you haven't already, its worth removing, cleaning and lubricating all the moving parts in the rudder lock (strop, sheave, rollers, pin, stock grooves). While doing that, make sure there are no parts missing - for example (if I recall correctly) the gr...

Re: Race Tracking with RaceQS

Seems to be working now. I just uploaded my Sunday afternoon track again can finally see it when I log into the RaceQS website. I had to enter most of my boat details again, and there's a small bug there because it wouldn't accept the full SCRHS rating of 1.397, it would only take 1.3. Not a problem...

Re: Race Tracking with RaceQS

Ah. Of course. I hadn't though in terms of GPS signal providing accurate time as well as position. Makes sense.

There's another leap second coming at the New Year so you'll be even further ahead in the virtual world for 2017 :)

Re: Race Tracking with RaceQS

Lots of info above! Thanks guys. One thought... another advantage of a phone with working sim is that the phone network should keep your clock adjusted accurately. I'm guessing that boat on boat comparison will look odd if the recording devices don't agree on the time of day within a few seconds of ...

Thanks Brian and Liam. Email sent to Gary for a new sail. Sadly I'm not in the position for a new boat just now :)

Re: How much?!?! Trailer stuff

What I've learned about trailers (sorry, never car topped) The wider the roller the better. I just switched mine to 8" V profile. Previous were 5" flat profile with raised edges and the boat tended to travel sideways while rolling on and want to jump off the side. I found bow snubber block...
