I can understand the arms race argument, though if the standards are rigidly applied this could be minimised. But if the class association is going to rigidly enforce a single source policy I feel it is obliged to ensure that source is not overly expensive.

New sail cost.

Just a follow-up from the earlier thread re the cost of new sails. When I picked up my repaired sail the other day the sailmaker who did the repairs told me that he could make me a brand new (obviously out of class) Dart 15 sail for £350-380. This would not include battens, but the sail would in eff...

Got my copy in the post this morning. Great issue George.
That old Spark is very impressive considering its age.
Very interesting to read about the DX progress, and I absolutely agree with the mainsail slug proposal.

Batten adjusting string.

I've received my new battens and have fitted the plastic tension adjusters (very easy with a file and hot-melt glue). I'm picking up my sail later and am wondering what people use for the "string" that's used to tie off and adjust the batten tension please? The old ones looked suspiciously...

Already done it Andrew. I talked to a nice lady at lunchtime and placed an order. I think she said Brian is competing at Datchet at the moment.

Ah, I see. I doubt I'll do much in the way of adjusting either, but they look nicer and will protect the end of the battens from scuffs and cracks I guess.
Thanks.

Batten end adjusters.

I took my old sail to a sailmaker last night with the intention of asking him to make me a copy of it. However, after unrolling it and giving it a look over he proclaimed it to be be in "very good nick" for its age, and that with some re-stitching, re-cringling, a patch and new battens it ...

Mike,
That's a good bit of advice re. the mast-foot pin, I'll make sure I do that if I rig the mast.
That trapeze tale sounds bloody scary.

Ray was saying at the show that there's an article planned for the mag, but I think he said it's going to be mainly an update on the new jib. I can imagine it's a bit of a chicken & egg situation with new PY numbers - you need lots of race results to work out a PY number but few people will buy ...

Is there any planned date for the formal adoption of a PY number for the DX mainsail?
What is the long-term "road-map" for the Sprint15 - will the DX eventually become the default rig?

Rob, Thanks for your kind offer. If nothing turns up in the next couple of months I'll give you a shout. As a matter of fact I had a really frustrating couple of days - found what sounded like a fantastic sail online but after lots of phone calls it turned out the guy had promised it to someone else...

Hi George
I'd say that's unlikely.
May see you at the March show?
