Broken boat #2008 Championship entry threatened

Post by dave42w »

Hi,

We are on holiday at Pentewan in Cornwall, had some lovely sailing but today disaster.

The aft beam cover on the port hull has cracked where it meets the deck on the aft side. The crack goes from the inside edge to about the middle and while sailing opened up to about 5mm. It seems to continue under the beam and a much smaller crack (not opened up while sailing) goes along the front of the cover/deck join.

We have dismantled her and loaded her on the van roof, hoping to visit Windsport who are very close to see if anything can be done.

Anyone taking a spare port hull to the nationals?

So #2008 is now at Windsport for some tlc.

A careful examination showed cracking around both rear beam sockets in a way that has happened to some other Out of Africa boats. A "proper job" repair is underway but may not be completed in time for the Nationals.

So we are trying to make backup plans.

We are looking for a pair of hulls complete with hatch covers that we could rent if needed for the Nationals. We are planning to drive from Cornwall to Weymouth on Friday and could divert some distance to collect (or contribute to extra fuel costs). We would fully insure and would use our own beams, rig etc (we only have Out of Africa hatch covers which is why we need them). We are heading back to Leicester via Manchester on Monday&Tuesday so could return to most places.

Anyone able to help?

Thanks

Dave

You are very welcome to take my spare boat Biscuit: 1709. However I cannot deliver as my car is fully laden already and the rest of Shanklin are pussies.

Thanks Liam very kind of you, not sure how practical and cost effective 4 crossings to IOW is.

So still open to offers :-)

Hi,

Just checked in with Brian at Windsport, they are now confident that they will be able to complete the repairs in time for the National Championships :-)

Yippee!

Hi Kevin,
This is just a reminder that you have 3 cups that you need to bring to Weymouth at the weekend. They are
Sea Dog Cup
Techno Trophy
Graffiti Cup

Can you please confirm that you will bring them back?
Thanks
Bob

PS Bright and shiney would be good

Thanks to Windsport a fully repaired #2008 has completed day 1 of the Nationals without any cracks and without taking on any water at all. A massive improvement over last year.
