Downhaul fitting

The standard downhaul fitting is cumbersome when trying to release. It lies at an awkward angle for releasing quickly at the top mark. I have to hold the tail end of the downhaul line and do a rather inelegant karate kick to get the line released from the jammer. Any thoughts / improvements?

seems like no one has replied, I agree with you, I've seen a few of these mounted upside down

Sorry I missed this post. Yes we authorised a much better (optional) 3:1 arrangement with turning blocks and cam cleats many moons ago. It is covered in out rules section 10 amendment "j) Downhaul - Three to one assembly with cleating and turning blocks"
Many boat have this set-up. Windsport used to market it but I see it has been taken off their website. It looks like they have rationised the downhaul they sell with the Dart 18 so it is 3:1 but still has the old "V" cleat. We put a picture of the better version in the magazine the year we approved it. I'll look out the picture and see if Liam will post it.

The picture of the arrangement was in the Summer 2002 magazine page 14. It also lists examples of the parts used.
I'll scan it and send Liam a copy to post on the web site.

I think you will find the 3:1 is still and always been on the Windsport catparts web shop + you can rig it what ever way up you wish. Search Catparts item 21011.

Hi Brian,
Yes that is the one. I could not find it - it is funny that it is in a separate section ( ropes and lines) where as the standard one is under blocks and cleats. Sorry to have missed it but it would be good to have the options in the same section of your website.
Regards
Bob

Sorry but I haven't been on for a bit - this and that.
Thanks everyone for replying to my comment.
The approved option looks to do the trick.
When it gets a bit warmer...........!
