What a weekend, it has been. Hot on the heels of Jack Farrenden's purchase of #668, there have been three more who've joined us.

1) Colin Rigg's new boat from Windsport.

2) John Williams has bought #1548 from Brian Mills. (An in-house transaction).

3) Ian and Anita Douce have bought #1963 from Marlow.

Net gain over the weekend is two more Sprints. I can't keep up. I need a secretary!

#791 "Thriller", one of our moribund boats, has been re-cycled in-house to Lewis White. No change in number in the fleet.

Steve Healy

Post by Andrew Hannah »

As from tonight, Steve Healy #1391 is the new class captain of the Sprints at Thorpe Bay.

Steve bought his Sprint immediately after the nationals, staged at Thorpe Bay in 2008. He has sailing experience and has expressed a wish to attend a Sp15 event.

Attendance at events is one of my failings. I reckon Steve will galvanise the class to attend more, especially if he plans to attend himself.

As for myself, I am keeping my Sprint. But I have retired from club committees.

Chris Hull

Post by Andrew Hannah »

Some bad news, I'm afraid. One of the missing persons from the yacht that capsized off Portugal over the weekend, is a member of Thorpe Bay YC. He is Chris Hull, the fleet captain of the club's big cats. He races a Hurricane 5.9. Further details are on Thorpe Bay YC website and in the papers.

Chris took part in the Sprint una-rig championships, held at Thorpe Bay in 2008. He sailed #1740. I am sure several Sprinters will remember him.

We are still hopeful that he will be found.

The photos on the Daily Mail website look horrific. Our best hopes and wishes to Chris and Glen's family and friends.

A belated thank you from me to TBYC for another excellent Icicle series. Great sailing, friendly welcome and a strong Sprint turnout for every race. I haven't done the maths but I reckon an avetage of 10 or more sprints on the start line.

All being well I'll be back next year. Highly recommended!
