A big
THANK YOU to all at Stewartby for hosting a record breaking event to kick-off the winter series. It was a great day out and the hospitality was superb. And the beers came in very useful later on at our village bonfire. It was good to see one or two new faces, in particular, David and Jonathan Lee sailing two-up in their
first ever event. Is this another first for the Class? - a two-up boat in the winter series.
I did feel somewhat 'on the ropes' in the first round of the Carsington/Draycote inter-club Winter TT challenge and was severely missing my clubmates-Ray, Robert and Robin. On the face of the results, it looked as though it had been a resounding victory for The James Gang and I'd been well and truly bushwhacked. BUT-on closer examination of the rules, the actual result may not be quite what it seemed. Tucked away in the lesser known and, up to now, unused rules, I found the
'MAST' clause which contains a sub-clause under the heading
'CRAP'. Without going in to a lot of detail, this broadly states that points accrued are averaged out and that when the odds are at least 3:1, the largest team have to each carry additional average penalty points equivalent to the whole number of competitors from each team taking part. (For the record, the odds at Stewartby were actually 4:1). When this is all put in to the (special) software for calculation, it shows that, the final tally was Carsington:32 points - Draycote 32.75 points. I should just confirm that the low points scoring system has still been rigorously applied in the calculations. So then - a victory for Carsington albeit by the narrowest of margins. But a victory is a victory
(For those not familiar with the lesser known details of the competition rules, 'MAST' is '
Manufacture
A Spurious
Technicality' and 'CRAP' is '
Consequential
Re-allocation of
Average
Points)
Looking forward to the next round
Cheers and Beers
