Round Sheppey

Post by Charles »

Kevin

Excellent article in the mag, I decided to do it a few weeks ago so your article is very timely. However, I'm hoping for a F6+ as I'm taking my Dart 18 & "Big Gav", my gorilla crew!

Hoping one or two others here might make the trek south, as it looks like fun!

The fast times, different sailing conditions & bridge all appeal to the slightly unhinged.

Didn't know about the link between Sheppey & the Assoc. until I read Nick's article, amazing how things all come together in the patchwork that is (sailing) life...

See you at Instow

In the diary, count me in for IOS race, competed last year for the first time and absolutely loved it  ......still grinning from ear to ear when I think of last year’s exploits :D :D

Got the bug for this 40 mile endurance pursuit race so will be back for more in September and this time I’ll cut the corner and save myself an extra mile or two
Nice article Kev, good topic for discussion with other sprinters at Instow whilst propping up the bar.
Hey George me old mucka, you like life on the wire! What about you joining Kev, Steve, Charles & myself later this year :?:
I think I heard on the grapevine that the “Laired of Ludlow” will also be competing in his first IOS race :?:
Mark, any chance of an appearance from Grafham sprinters at Sheppey :?:

This years round sheppy race is on for Saturday 1st of September with a reserve date of the 2nd of September for any reason it cannot go ahead on the Saturday. The catamaran start time is usually at 12:00.

Its usually around the same time each year in September (a week or so into the month). This is the website for the race:

http://www.iossc.org.uk/islandrace/index.php

I've done it a few times in a Pacer and also an Enterprise (back in the 80's) but never in a cat.

Yes - escaping the Lair can be a little problematic at times, but I'm working on it  .

The past results are quite interesting in that in 1985 there was a good entry from the Spark's at Seasalter who were keeping the class alive (see Nicks article in the class mag): Nick was 133rd, and the best sparker was S.Morgan in 117th out of a fleet of 300 (they are missing the bit of the results where I
feature :? ).

in other cat news: Catapult number 1 sailed by its designer was 25th. The race was won by a Moth and the top places went to dinghies!

Looking forward to seeing you there in 2013 Mark, you could take both boats, Sprint for F3 & above & the A-class for pure pose-ability !!

Will have to try to work out how to get down to Grafham for a play once you've taken delivery!!
