Seasalter SC - New sea wall ramps & boats

Post by Steve Willis »

The new sea wall ramps at Seasalter SC were officially opened by our local MP, Julian Brazier, and our club President, Frank Avery, on 7th September. Photos of this £72,500 project can be found on the SSC web site.

Our thanks go to the Inspired Facilities olympic legacy fund and the London Array windfarm company for their financial assistance and the club project team and our Contractors, Ovendens and Uplands Engineering for enabling and completing the project.

Permissions were required from Canterbury City Council, the Environment Agency and Natural England and our thanks also go to all in those organisations who made it possible.

The new facilities are already showing benefits to club membership with an additional 12 boats joining the fleets in the last few months - including 4 more Sprint 15s, taking our fleet to 27 out of a total of 87 boats. During the 6 weeks that the ramps were closed members were not deterred from sailing - with dinghies being passed over the wall on lengths of carpet and more than 40 boats stored on the beach.

Hard work to get it all done but what a difference and even the new earth banks and rock wall are seeded and growing well.

Thanks Bob,

Yes great fleet - and averaging 10-12 out most sailing days (with 2 or 3 helms doing duty in addition).

Our mentor/buddy system is working well as well so that our 'average' sailing day sees 20-24 boats out on the water.
