Unknown boat

Post by Liam »

We have another Sprint 15 coming to Shanklin next week. It has never raced and we are unaware of its number. It is an "Amatola" special edition so that puts it between 1920 and 1945.

The following is a list of numbers that have never raced in a Sprint 15 Association event. If anybody knows about one of those numbers please can they reply below.

1924
1927
1930
1935
1936
1942
1943

What number was the first "Millenium" boat? That would narrow it down further.

Hi Liam,
You are looking at a much smaller number of boats than you list. We (the Sprint 15 Association) ran the special offers from late 2000 and I can name all the owners of the boats bought from 1935 Laurie Gustar to 1947 William Tusting. 1935 was the first Millenium Special edition. They made very few Amatola boats.
Ones that were near the Amotola boats include:
1918 Gordon Goldstone - Not an Amatola
1919 ???
1920 Dave Fearnley (Amatola)
1921 Norman Ellis (Amatola)
1922 Alan Welman (Amatola)
1923 Ed Low (Amatola)
1924 Dave Holyoak (Amatola)
1925 Matt Smith (I'm not sure of the colours)
1926 now Bob Baker (I'm not sure of the colours)
1927 ???
1928???
1930???
If you have found the numbers you have not listed that probably makes it 1927, 1930 or possibly 1919.
I hope this helps :D

Certainly does help.

My list was taken from this site's results database. I listed all the ones that were not mentioned in that range.

If you are interested I can email you or publish the list of boats.

Hi Liam
I think your search was less than thorough. :?
All those I list above were raced and are in our results.
Also 1942 was raced lots on the circuit by Chris Black
1935 by Laurie Gustar,
1936 by Joe Armstrong,
1943 by Mike Rainier
etc.
I suspect you just did a search of the traveller series. Quite often the above boats were involved in National Championships and Sport Nationals.
Quite often also you have to open the link to see the full results with sail numbers.

Yes you are right on both counts.

1927 and 1930 have not taken part in Nationals either.

Yes for those that are wondering 1930 was Mark Aldridge's boat before he bought 1966.
He raced it in the 2000 Nationals and sold it to a Grafham Club sailor after that.
We hardly ever saw it out after that :(
