I am sorry to write to say that last Saturday afternoon one of our most active Sprint 15 sailors, Tim Seymour, 47, suffered a fatal heart attack whilst sailing 1923 in a club race. Regretably, despite valiant efforts by club members and the ambulance crews and hospital staff, he could not be revived.
We have delayed posting this sad news until we knew that all of his family had been contacted and we will be joining them in putting together a fitting eulogy of Tim's life to be posted later.
For now suffice it say that ever since Tim, an ex kite surfer, joined us at SSC 4 years ago he has loved his Sprint 15 sailing. Those of us who knew him well know that he would not have considered a better way to go than fully sheeted and hiked on a broad reach across the bay in beautiful winds.
Up and coming in the club fleet for the last couple of years he had found his form this year and had won his last five races including our long Fowley Island race the week before, and has won 4 club race series this season.
Our thoughts are with his family and close friends at this difficult time and many of us from SSC will be joining them for his service at Barham Crematorium off the A2 east of Canterbury at 4pm next Tuesday 27th, and then afterwards at Seasalter SC club house for a celebration of his life.
Tim's family have asked that instead of flowers they would appreciate donations to the RNLI Whitstable.
