It is not every day that a purpose-built committee boat is for sale. However, Thorpe Bay Yacht Club has put its committee boat on e-bay, reference number 380377337027.
This is an unique opportunity for any club that wishes to start its races from a committee boat. The vessel, currently on a mooring off Thorpe Bay Yacht Club, is a 33 foot catamaran, which gives race officials a stable platform to start races. Importantly, the decks are sufficiently wide, thereby allowing officials to walk around the cabin. Moreover, there is a top platform which substantially improves the race officer's view of the line.
The outboard engine is operated from a steering wheel within the cabin. There is standing headroom. The sea toilet is in a separate compartment. The committee boat features in Paul Elvstrom's Memoires and is known the world over.
The bidding ends on saturday 22nd October, at just after 10.30 am.
