Big wheeled trollies: technical assistance

I need some technical help.
I have a big wheeled trolley, which I bought from Windsport some years ago. The valve in one of the tyres simply pops out of the tyre, causing it to quickly deflate. It's a bit like a bicycle valve dropping out of the wheel rim. It's never happened, so I'm surprised it happens on my trolley.
What is the remedy? Do I need a new tube? Indeed, do the trollies even have a tube?
With thanks for any advice,
Andrew.

Andrew,
Do you mean the valve complete (black rubber with nobble on bottom is coming out of the rim or just the valve insert, which screws into the rubber valve (metal and about 1/8" dia and 10-25mm long), is coming out.
If it is the whole thing then you do not have a tube and could get a tyre place to install a new valve for you (they do that every time they change a car tyre. probably only cost £1-2 including labour.
If it is a tubed tyre then the rubber valve stem will be floppy in the hole when deflated but the stem will not pull out of the rim. If it is tubed and the insert only is coming out and it cannot be screwed back inside the valve (needs a special valve tool which costs pence) then you have lost the internal thread and would need a new tube (tyre autow warehouse or towsure websites or fleabay).
Hope that helps
Best wishes
Steve

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your words. It's the metal valve insert (that you describe) that comes out. The rubber nozzle that pokes out remains intact. Curiously, I can press it back into the rubber and re-inflate. The tyre stays inflated...... until the valve is knocked, when it falls out again.
I'm a bit of a technophobe when it comes to these things.

I believe the inserts are stainless steel but the thread inside the rubber nozzle is not and they corrode away. If you are able to push the valve insert in it appears the female thread is knackered - is they should screw in. Possibly needs a new tube then. Make sure when you have pumped up that you smear some grease on the external thread on the rubber bit and put on a rubber valve cap - helps stop the corrosion.

If you decide on fitting a inner tude to a cat trax wheel unit, windsport sell them item 09008
www.catparts.windsport.co.uk . We recommend all valves get a squirt of duck oil or similar each time they are inflated to reduce salt and silt getting into the valve . Also use a dust cover and grease the thread so it can be unscrewed easily.
