Grafham Traveller 25/26 October

Post by Bob Carter »

Just a quick reminder it's our Grafham Traveller on 25-26 October.
This is our Inland Championships and is the last traveller in the Summer Series.
Hope to see you there :D

I see that this is just 1 week ahead of the first of the Winter Series at Stewartby.

Why not plan to do both and leave the boat at Grafham or Stewartby?

If there is interest I'll see if I can get agreement from the Grafham Club. I cannot see it being a problem and I know that Stewartby generally offer to do this too.
I bet Karl is writing a note at this minute.

Less than 2 weeks to the event at Grafham on 25th/26th October, our biggest inland event of the year and the final event in the Summer TT Series.

Hoping for a big turn out for this one, so please try and be there.

See you there.

Gordon

PS. Pre-entering is advised....it saves £5.

Following the success of last year's trial we will again be including a 2 course evening meal for each competitor (2 for double handers) in the entrance fee. It makes for a much better social gathering in the bar on Saturday evening. :D It will be served in the top bar at 6.30pm on Saturday. Competitors must select their choice of meal at registration before they go on the water on Saturday. There is a choice of 3 main courses and 3 puddings (see below). Extra meals can be bought for £9 for guests and they must be ordered before noon on Saturday.

There is a £5 discount to the entry fee if you pre-enter before 25 October so get your entry in.

Main Course Options
Lamb Hot Pot.
Or
Hunters Chicken with Potato Wedges & Salad.
Or
Vegi Option
Vegetatian Lasagne

Pudding Options:
Apple Pie & Custard or Ice Cream
or
Fudge Tart with Cream
or
Strawberry Cheesecake and cream

I'm sure it would be OK to leave a boat/trailer at GWSC for those going to Stewartby the following week.

Check with the office on 01480 810478

I see that either Paul Craft, Stuart Snell or Paul Grattage can win the overall series. Kevin Dutch can't quite do it but if Kevin Dutch or Paul Grattage turn up and sail Sport mode one of them will win the Sport Mode Series Trophy that has been gathering dust in George Stephen's cupboard for a few seasons................. :D :D :D :D

I knew when the first ex-hurricane of the year rolled across the uk it must be time for Grafham again :D I'm bringing even more spare battens this year.

There should be 5 boats from Marconi if all goes to plan. Looking forward to it.

It's possible, but highly improbable, that Kevin could win the overall series (it would be on countback from Paul Craft, with Stuart and both Pauls achieving only poor results by their normal standards).

The wind forecast is varying as later weather data gets taken into account. At the moment it looks like Unarig may be better on Saturday with Sport Mode better on Sunday, but even that prediction depends on the relative proportions of wind (as measured for Beaufort Scale, ie before gusts) and "gusted wind".

I'd like to see the overall series won by someone sailing Sport Mode. It'll be the first time this millenium, and probably the first since a Carter or Mike Cemm did this double in the 1990s. Maybe Bob can remember, or look it up.

I haven't sailed a Traveller event since Stewartby almost a year ago. I sailed the Standard Nationals at Thorpe Bay after getting commitments from Gordon and Keith Chidwick to help me moving my boat on the beach, most particularly off it! As it happened, I was assisted by other Sprinters, mainly Thorpe Bay sailors, for which help I was and still am most grateful. I think most readers will rightly guess that I have health issues. It now looks as though I won't get to Grafham either; Gordon will be taking the Sport Mug to Grafham for me.
