Grafham potentially cancelling because of fears of a little puff of wind, have they been nobbled by the Muesli eaters in the fleet? are the South Island contingent worried ferries might be cancelled? and or is this another BREXIT issue?

In any event I cannot come (no tow bar) so I hope it takes place and good luck to all taking part if it does.

Dear All
In view of the high winds forecast for the weekend, the two day CAT Open at Grafham has been cancelled. Competitors who have already entered will be entitled to a full refund. We will look to rescheduling the event, probably in March 2018, and will be talking to Class reps about this.
We are aware that some people will already have committed to travel, and also that the forecast for Sunday is slightly less extreme than for Saturday, so some sailing may be possible on Sunday. We are therefore making the following arrangements for Sunday:

For the Sprint 15s, a four race event on a separate race track (first race 10:30)
For any others the opportunity to join in with Club Racing (four races with a break for lunch – first race 11am)
The fee for both these will be £14.50.
Note however that both these are conditional on the wind being such that the lake is open for sailing
The Club bar will be open on Saturday evening but we will not be providing food.
Thanks
John Aston

Seems like a reasonable compromise. Good work GWSC and others who have worked behind the scenes to make it happen. Fingers crossed for Sunday.

There should still be a good contingent from Marconi, partly because we've booked our accommodation and partly because some of our sailors quite like a 'good breeze' (looking at you Jon and Chris :D ). I'm quite partial to a bracing sail myself - especially as this will be my last outing in the boat this year.

Good luck to Team Marconi in overcoming Shanklin in the team shield. If you sail in 38 knots you deserve it.

Our plans so far extend to walking/cycling around the reservoir on Saturday, followed by some fine food and drink at a local hostelry and a cozy (in most cases) night's sleep most definitely not in a tent. It remains to be seen how many of us actually rig up and go sailing on Sunday morning - or indeed whether anyone will take to the water given the frankly daft ratio of wind speed to gust speed.
