Hi all,
I've noticed that many of the Dart 15 sailors at Seaford have switched from wire to pre-stretched Dyneema for the jib halyard.
Am just curious how commonplace this is?
I've not heard of any breakages, and in fact I wouldn't be surprised if a Dart with a broken forestay could be limped home on one...
Any thoughts?

I use them. Thumbs up from me. No stray wires sticking in your fingers.

Yep, bin the wires.

A broken forestay will have your mast down around your ankles and the jib torn apart...

so does this keep the boat class legal , and can this also be applied to the other rigging as well

also what size spec dynema should be used

It's in our rules under "Alternative Parts" that you can use a "Jib Halyard Line" between 2.5 and 3.5mm with length between 5000 and 6000mm.

The jib halyard wire, however more closely matches the forestay length at 3355mm which makes more sense.

Nobody will be measuring it if you put one one. They don't make you go any faster so nobody cares.
