General News - Sprint 15's enjoy success at Thorpe Bay SC Winter Series

I thought I should post back here to say a big thank you to everyone at Thorpe Bay who made me welcome for their winter sailing programme. I can heartily recommend it to other Sprint 15 sailors in the area who are looking for local sailing next winter.

The Icicle series format of 1 race per day, approx every other Sunday was just right for me. The shoreline start and square(ish) courses were simple but effective. Starts were prompt and races were finished at just the right duration. Events were helped along by generally good weather on race days - lucky when consider the snow and biting frost that plagued much of Jan and Feb.

The Icicle series drew to a close yesterday. Well done to Andrew Hannah for taking overall 1st place amongst the cat classes. With Howard Hawkes 2nd overall and myself (David Ball) 3rd we managed a Sprint 15 1-2-3

Through a quick analysis of the results I reckon the average Sprint 15 turnout was about 10 boats, twice peaking at 13. This made for good fleet racing and competition at all levels.

My boat is back at Marconi SC now ready for our Spring series that starts next week. Its nice to be 'home', but I've had a great time at TBYC and will certainly be back next winter if they'll have me.
