Racing Rules available on Tips page

Post by Martin Searle »

Folks,

I have added in a section on the tips page: http://www.sprint15.com/faq.php that provides a number of links to Racing Rules and a short one page summary of the basic rules needed for racing.

ISAF updated the rules this year and thus the rules for 2013-16 are now available a few things have been modified. Follow the link to the ISAF rules webpage to get a document with all the changes from the previous rules.

I really recommend a book 'The Racing Rules in Practice 2013-2016' by Bryan Willis (no relation) available on Amazon or e-bay for about £10.50. - Make sure not to buy the old 2009-2012 version.

It includes all the rules at the back, but the other 60% of the book is illustrations and commentary of right of way and give way helm positions for each direction of sailing (pre start, start, beat, reach, run etc) really easy to read - and includes some comments like ' of course you really should not have got in this position anyway'.

I have recommended our club members buy it rather than the bare rules book.

Yes Steve you are right, but you have got to start somewhere and novices do not start by reading the full rules.
If some of the competitors at last years Nationals had read a short simple version we would have been better off.

True, but if the race officer had half a brain we'd almost have had some good racing!
