The 2001 Dart 18 and 2003 Sprint 15 peaks were 25th anniversary events which appealed to members of both classes for obvious reasons, but were 2 years apart.
The subsequent downs and ups for the Sprint 15 Nationals reflect, inter alia, a combination of relative closeness to many members, members' perceptions of the chosen venue and the number of active members around the date. The awful 2005 dip was partly due to some members talking down Pwllheli as a venue, almost certainly without any experience of that excellent club, its friendly members and staff, its facilities for visitors boats, the ease of launching, quality of safety boats and of RO; the extent of their prejudice became clear when snide comments appeared anonymously on the Chat pages during the Nationals. I think their comments were removed later, but not before they got the full blast of George Carter's disapproval!!
There is no accessible information on the Dart 18 website about events prior to this decade.
So other than the 25th Anniversary events, I think that any correlation is likely to be mere fluke.
