giudance please

Post by simon »

Hi All

I have recently sold my Phantom and bought a sprint sail 1970 having never sailed a cat, I rigged the boat on Sunday, went for play and had great fun reaching, now for the giudance, should the 15 be fitted with a Spanner Line? if so is it a peice of shock cord of about 4/5mm diameter, and does it fit from downhaul take off bracket to the inner cringle at the clew of the sail, I have read about this in the Cat Book. I have box with many different fittings and bit of rigging so I sure to be asking more silly questions

Thanks for any advice

Hi Simon,

Welcome to Sprint sailing.

No spanner line is used on the Sprint 15 - I assume because the cut of the sail foot and/or the angle of the mainsheet is sufficient to control mast rotation without this addition. The Dart 18 on the other hand does have a spanner line - which is probably what's shown in the Catamaran book.

Cheers

Welcome Simon! Congratulations on your choice of boat - the Sprint 15 is brilliant and you should have some great fun with it. As for the spanner line, you don't need to worry about that as it is not part of the Sprint 15's rig. I expect the illustration you have seen is of a Dart 18 which needs some extra bits of string to give the crew something to do . Keep asking the questions and there will always be someone willing to help.
Good luck.

Simon,

Go to the Home Page on this site and click on "Manuals" in the left hand column.

The rigging maual is a bit dated, but it shows all the critical parts. It doesn't show the variations that have been allowed following Class Association Members proposals that have been voted in at an AGM and had subsequent "official approval".

The Parts List is the old Laser Centre Parts List, with the Laser Centre part numbers - Windsport use a different number system - I think it is the original part number system used before Laser Centre took over.
