Off to Cornwall for some sailing in the morning

Post by dave42w »

So our Sprint 15 is loaded on the car roof, all the spares inside the caravan. In the morning we are heading down to Cornwall. Camping close to Carnon Downs, hoping to keep the Sprint at St Just in Roseland as we will be spending time with family staying in St Mawes.

Looks like some nice days later in the week :-)

Check out my sail on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/81389 ... 1482941413

Absolutely beautiful, first went to the beach at St Mawes where Jane brought me a coffee and pasty. Sat in the sun to enjoy that.

Then just blasting around the harbour, force 4 gusting 5. Biggest swell so far but that is a lot drier than the solent chop. A Dart 18 was also out and a few sailing cruisers, shame because the rest missed a glorious day.

So much fun!

I'm about to edit some video but will wait for WiFi before uploading. To wet your appetite here is a photo as we were on the King Harry Ferry heading to Pascoes Boatyard at St Just in Roseland (£5 a day for launching and storage for visitors with an honesty box). Much easier launching than at Mylor as much less steep, but then a longer inlet to exit with fickle wind in it.

Brilliant. They are such good cruising boats.

It's important to post videos like this so the people who put their boats away for the winter know what they are missing.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

More sailing tomorrow as there has been a distinct lack of wind today :-(

Tomorrow and Sunday are a big family gathering at St Mawes so I'll be giving some nephews and nieces rides :-) But again very light winds. Sunday and Monday look a lot better with gusts up to 30 mph :-) Then pack up on Monday to travel home on Tuesday.

New Year's Day sail.

Went out with my 13 year old nephew for his first catamaran sail.

Broke our personal speed record, our top speed is now 18.1 mph

Another fantastic sail. Mostly gentle with just the mainsail for Jane and I. Sunny but cold.
I wore 3 thermal long sleeve tops, a cycling fleecy top. Fleece onsie and drysuit.

On Strava at https://www.strava.com/activities/81891 ... 1483378230
Very short video at https://youtu.be/mMtSS6apyAU
Boat now on car roof ready for us to return to Leicester towing our caravan tomorrow.

Glad we have now found how easy it is to take the trolley apart, makes changing gear easier when driving ;-)
